Your baby has a layer of sebum on their skin which protects their skin from dirt and bacteria. Baby dribble contains digestive enzymes which irritate the skin and break down this protective layer and can cause a rash. It also makes their clothing wet and leads to rubbing and chafing against their delicate skin. Dribbling will usually get worse when babies are teething as they will naturally produce more saliva during this time.
