History
The Old Vine Project of South Africa recognises the importance of caring for vineyards to allow vines to have a healthy and productive old age, thus creating a sustainable farming model. This Chenin Blanc is made exclusively for M&S by Riebeek Valley Wines from 35 year old vines carefully cultivated by the 22 families who found the winery almost 80 years ago.
Regional Information
Swartland is a large wine-producing area 40 miles north of Cape Town in the Western Cape of South Africa. Traditionally a wheat-producing region, it now specializes in making rich, fruit-driven wines particularly from the Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Pinotage grape varieties.

Vinification Details
The Chenin Blanc grapes were crushed, and allowed to settle before 21 days of fermentation at between 13-15C. The wine stayed in its lees before bottling to add complexity.
