In 1847, a young Bavarian immigrant named Johann Gramp planted the Barossa Valley's first commercial Vineyard on the banks of Jacob's Creek. From the vine to the bottle, the mission for Jacob's Creek is simply to improve the quality of each vintage. Fruit was harvested from a variety of regions within South Eastern Australia that have traditionally provided the correct balance of flavour for the blend. The fruit is harvested at night when the ambient temperature is cooler, then immediately transported to the winery to be de-juiced ensuring minimal skin contact occurs. This is reflected in the wines, which are soft and flavoursome. In 30 years Jacob's Creek has won over 8000 awards, showcasing its true quality. As passionate makers of wine, we are equally dedicated to preserving the land and environment we work in. Our home was built to be environmentally sustainable, with an on-site wastewater treatment plant, solar hot water, the use of recycled and renewable materials and a design to minimize the use of power for heating, cooling and lighting.
Our walls of glass maximise the use of natural light and the building is orientated to minimise direct summer sun, while maximising winter sunlight onto dark tiles to generate natural heat. Recycled and sustainable materials were used in the construction, such as recycled or sustainable timber, and in fittings inside the building such as materials made from recycled plastic bag & plastic drink bottles. We also collect rainwater from the roof for our dual flush toilets and there's an on-site wastewater treatment plant to allow all water to be re-used for irrigation.
